Destash Project - Scrap like Paige Evans

This week, as part of my Destash Project, I thought I would focus on a scrapbooker that I love who does amazing things with paper.  Paige Evans does a lot of paper layering and Silhouette cuts.  However, I do not own any diecutting machines nor do I have a whole of punches (I own a 1.5 inch circle and a star).  Despite this, Paige Evans has lots of pages that could easily be created just by cutting paper strips or squares out of your paper (she loves to use her square punches in new ways!).

So for this week I started with a selection of papers that I cut hearts out of.  I created my hearts simply by cutting paper squares in 1.5 inches, 2 inches, and 3 inches.  Then I folded my square in half and cut out my heart.  Easy!  Once I had a stack of hearts, I searched through her gallery for layouts that she created using hearts.  And let me tell you, I found a ton!  I chose three to inspire my layouts for this week.

Big Squishies

For this layout, I was inspired by Paige Evans' layout "Love & Hugs".  Now, since Atty is wearing one of her Christmas/Winter sleepers, I really didn't want to have been bold colors.  I decided to stick with a fairly neutral color scheme with the pinks thrown in (because I seem to always use pink on her layouts!).  The photo is of Atty eating breakfast one morning and I loved the photo, but it didn't have a lot of story to go with it.  I have already documented this specific moment (her first time eating toast) through my Project Life spreads, so I asked Jamie if he had any stories about her that he thought should be told.  And so Big Squishies was born!  The journaling reads, "Atty has been giving what we have named - "Big Squishies" lately.  They are part bear hug, part cuddle, part 'I am never letting go of my blank (insert momma or daddy).'  It is super adorable and sweet to come home to a Big Squishie!  Definitely makes you feel loved!  She is also giving big open mouth kisses!"

Supplies

Hearts are from the following papers
  • Fancy Pants - Spring Fever (script)
  • Paper Studio - Baby Script (pink)
  • Dear Lizzy - Perfect Picture
  • Studio Calico - Woot (black and white vertical chevron)
  • Recollections - Pink Tiles
This layout uses all three sizes (1.5, 2, and 3 inches) of the heart shapes.  Then, I used the Echo Park, Beautiful Life Collection, paper "Banners" as a background to arrange my hearts.  The 3x4 journaling cards are from the Becky Higgins Midnight Project Life Core Kit.  I also used a pink alpha from Nikki Sivils (Pink Alpha Sticker Sheet) for "Squishies" and Basic Grey Paper Cottage for "Big".  Then I just added some Studio G pink gems to create a few small clusters to draw your eye around the page.

1st Idol - Po

For this layout, I was inspired by Paige Evans' layout "Me & Amy".  This layout is all about my daughter's obsession with Kung-Fu Panda.  As soon as she hears the theme introduction music, she comes crawling as lightning speed so that she can watch the show and dance to the tunes.  These photos are from two separate Po watching occasions throughout the month of April, 2014.

Supplies

Hearts are from the following papers
For this layout, I only used the 2 inches hearts.  I also used a Studio Calico Snippets collection paper called "Oh Snap" for my background.  For embellishments, I used almost a whole package of My Mind's Eye Chipboard elements from the Sweetest Thing collection, several Prima flowers, and my pink Studio G gems.  The alphas that I used were Dear Lizzy Soiree and the Basic Grey Paper Cottage black alpha.

Bubble Guppy Fan

Finally, for this layout I was inspired by Paige Evans' layout "Day Trip to Bamberg".  And in case you didn't pick up on it, I did not want to cut out more hearts!  So I decided not to cut the hearts in half and stitch them the way she did.  Since I cut out my hearts by hand, one at a time, they also did not match up to make mixing and matching easy at all.  So I just ignored that part and went about my business.  I loved her messy zizag stitching that she had on the hearts, so I added that detail using my sew-easy, which wasn't so easy and doesn't look near as good as her does.  But I do love the added detail to the finished layout.  These photos are from one afternoon in April that Atty spent with Jamie.  She also loves watching Bubble Guppies and it is one of our before bedtime shows that I let her watch.  It seems to calm her down, instead of getting her into play play play mode.  She even climbed up and watched it on Daddy's lap this time!  He sent me these photos while I was at work, and I loved her different facial expressions.  The #24 is actually the date of these photos, but I thought it also played into the fact that she would watch it 24/7 if she could (and if we could stand it)!

Supplies

Hearts are from the following papers
  • Paper Studio - Baby Script (pink)
  • Dear Lizzy - Perfect Picture
  • Amy Tangerine (I'm not sure what the paper is called because it came in a huge pack from Michaels in 8.5x11 for $5)
  • Recollections - Pink Tiles
For this layout, I used the 1.5 inches hearts that I had left and also cut out the hearts that were on the Amy Tangerine paper (because I didn't have enough left).  I used another Studio Calico Snippets paper called "Wow" for the background.  And I used the left over scrap of the Paper Studio Baby Script to mat my photos.  For the embellishments I chose some Studio G chipboard diecuts (happiness, flowers, and the arrow), and some Simple Stories stickers (heart that is under the 24 and the flowers by happiness) from the new Mom collection.  I also scattered some pink sequins throughout the layout.

So, I have a decent amount of scraps left from the papers that I cut hearts out of. However, I used up 4 whole sheets of paper for these three layouts. Which brings me up to 7 whole sheets of paper used for the month!  I'd love to have you join up with me this month, and please leave a comment if you have some creative ways to use up paper!  Check back next week, when I will be using Isbaha's new challenge site, Scrap Your Scraps to inspire my next batch of paper stashbusting layouts.

  2. I am a huge Paige Evans fan, and these are great pages! Before I bought my square punch I'd shut squares on my trimmer and then cut them in half to make triangles, I find that shape awesome for Paige-like pages.
