Destash - July

I have a paper obsession.  Seriously, I love pretty, new paper.  Honestly, it doesn't matter what kind it is.  I love them all from notebooks, sketchbook paper, watercolor paper, scrapbooking paper, tissue paper, heck even wrapping paper!  One of my favorite times of the year is Back-to-School Time, so that I can see all the new notebooks.  However, this means that I have collected A-L-O-T of paper!  So this month I'm going to focus on using some of the various papers that I have collected, because despite the fact that I do use a ton of it - I still keep buying more paper!  This is my current collection of scrapbooking paper (at least what I could find).  I do have more that is currently in kits, but I think this gives a general idea of what I am working with! It is 7.5 inches tall.  A recent discussion on Two Peas in a Bucket commented on the fact that an inch of scrapbook paper (at full price) equals $100.  That's crazy.  Now, I rarely buy paper at full price, but still that is almost $750 dollars!  And that's not even accounting for my watercolor, sketchbooks, tissue paper, etc.

Back in January, one of my goals was to really focus on destashing and using up some of the stuff that I own and not buying more!  Except...that I haven't been doing very well.  At least, not very well at not buying new stuff.  I have made a fabulous dent in my scrapbook supplies, but my paper pile doesn't seem to have budged.  This is my "new" paper, purchased since January - it is 1.5 inches tall!  And I've been using up a ton of paper!

So I want to spend the month of July focusing on using up some paper!  Care to join me?  Here's my plan for the month!

Plans for the Month

  • Week One - Determine what you have, and create a scrapbook layout to see how you use paper regularly.
  • Week Two - We will focus on Paige Evans, who does fabulous layouts with an emphasis on paper.  I created a pin board on Pinterest - Scrapbook Like - Paige Evans - of some of her layouts that inspired me. Paige Evans is also on Pinterest so you can check her out there, as well.
  • Week Three - We will focus on using a challenge blog for inspiration.  I will be using Scrap Your Scraps hosted by Isbaha for my inspiration.
  • Week Four - We will focus on using up our SCRAPS!

Week One

April Currents

This layout is about all the little things that Atty was currently doing in April.  Very simple and straightforward page layout.  This is very typical of my scrapbook style.  Usually, I have a piece of 4x12 paper that runs the length of the page, either vertical or horizontal.  Then I have small clusters scattered throughout the page that include title and journaling.  Often, I have between one and three photos that are matted (at least once) with some small paper bits tucked around them.

Supplies:

  • Provocraft (1999) - Background paper
  • Paper Studio - Grey and White Chevron (4x12 piece)
  • Dear Lizzy - 5th and Frolic - Simplicity Circle (Teal photo mat, and the B side is that Grey Polka Dot)
  • Becky Higgins - Baby Girl Mini Project Life kit - You card & Documenting your story
  • Studio G - gems
  • The baby paper sqs are unknown brand, since the paper has no brand or date on it (I hate that), but it definitely prior to 2004.
  • Buttons from stash
  • Thickers - Memo - This is the "Currents" alpha
  • Basic Grey - Paper Cottage - This is the "April" alpha

Atizle Discovers the New World (known as) Outside

This layout is about when Atty began becoming aware of Outside in April.  Very simple and straightforward page layout.  Again, I have a piece of 4x12 paper that runs the length of the page horizontally (its a two page spread, hence the common color scheme and supplies).  Then I have small clusters scattered throughout the page that include title and journaling.  Once again, I have two photos that have been matted on the Dear Lizzy paper (both sides) and a small scattering of Studio G gems.

Supplies

  • Provocraft (1999) - Background paper
  • Paper Studio - Grey and White Chevron (4x12 piece)
  • Dear Lizzy - 5th and Frolic - Simplicity Circle (Teal photo mat, and the B side is that Grey Polka Dot)
  • Becky Higgins - Baby Girl Mini Project Life kit - Journaling card
  • Studio G - gems
  • Thickers - Memo - This is the "Atizle" & "New" alpha
  • Basic Grey - Paper Cottage - This is the "Discovers" & "Outside" alpha
  • Nikki Sivils - Pink (world) & Blue tile alphas (the & known as)
So, I have left over a decent scrap of the baby blocks, a 4x12 strip of the chevron.  However, I used up 3 whole sheets of paper for these two layouts (yes, I know, its not that impressive).  But this is my typical scrapbook style.  I have also been known to fussy cut out paper that I think would work well for creating clusters.  Other than that, I'm not very creative in how I use my paper - which is why I think it makes the perfect stash busting challenge for this month!  I'd love to have you join up with me this month, and please leave a comment if you have some creative ways to use up paper!

  8. sounds like a plan. I have a LOT of BasicGrey paper that I love to own and stroke - perhpas I should join in. I do, however, use up a lot of paper per layout as I stack up the layers. I really like the current grid design trend but then I layer up four or five papers behind each photo or behind the group - that really does use up a lot!
