April Counterfeit Kit

This month the Counterfeit Kit Club is taking inspiration from the CSI: Case Files #112.  This was a really hard way for me to make a kit.  I used the color scheme, but I wasn't exactly thrilled by the muted tones when it has been a really long winter and I am dreaming of bright, pops of color.  I also prefer to use actual kits so that I can better incorporate my older stash items, rather than just using new products.  So creating this kit was definitely a challenge for me!

I started by pulling any and all papers that I thought might work with the color scheme, beginning with my oldest products (since I am really trying to use them up)!  I actually started with my Mom's stash of scrapbooking paper, predominately dated around 1995 - 2000.  Then I hit my older stash of papers, and finally my new products.  Well, let me tell you!  I ended up with a stack of paper that *might* work together that was at least 2-3 inches high.  Sigh.

So I began going back through my "kit" again trying to get it to be a more manageable size that I would actually use up in a month.  I knew I wanted to use my new Becky Higgin's Project Life mini kit - "Home", because I felt it went with the color scheme given by the CSI challenge, but also had pops of color that have become staples in my monthly scrapbooking.  It has some reds and some pinks in addition to the colors offered in the CSI challenge.

Thus, I went through my papers again using these Project Life cards to see what would coordinate and building out from there.  I finally managed to narrow my kit for this month so that patterned papers, cardstock, and embellishments all fit into ONE Iris container.  Yay!

* means that it is a new product that I have purchased (within the last two months) and have not used yet.

Yes, it's still huge and I will by no means completely use up all that paper this month!  However, my goal is to make a serious dent in the oldest papers by incorporating some of the new fun ones.  I have spent the majority of my monthly budget for the last two months on embellishments and alphas, because I have a TON of paper that I need to tackle.  Yet I don't have very much in the way of embellishments or alphas and I am currently loving to layer it up on my pages (getting rid of more paper that way!)

I'm also changing up the way I scrapbook this month.  February and March, due to our crappy weather, weren't very inspired months for getting creative projects done.  Atty has switched up her routines on me and I'm still cooping to trying to carve out small bits of time that I can play in the evenings.  However, since she has completely stopped taking one of her naps in the evenings, it hasn't been working out too well.  So I decided to just wait and print all my photos for the month of March and then play with them in April.  Yep.  I'm behind, but I'm okay with that!  PS - I still haven't finished the last two weeks of February either, but I'm trying!

Let me know if you have any questions about my kit or my plans this month and stay tuned, because there should be lots of fun stuff happening around the blog this month.  I'm planning on recording some videos and showing you all my process of working on my scrapbook throughout the month.  Plus, I'm waaaaayyy overdue for a When Frogs Sing Journal Flip.

  4. I'm in awe of your massive kit! But what a good objective to have to get that older stash incorporated and maybe used up. I always try to have a few older items in my kits but it never seems to reduce the stash!" :-)

Great kit and I look forward to seeing page after page of lovely creations!

  7. So, I'm not the only one that starts with a massive selection and whittles it down - though I usually end up with a much smaller kit! I'm ruthless, but I'm also usually jealous of the choice and selection everyone else has with their lovely, full kits!
